What is a Sekurant?
A Sekurant serves as a fixed anchor point for personal protective equipment (PPE) when working at heights. These products are permanently connected to the structure and allow PPE to be attached via eyelets, work positioning belts or safety systems. This creates a personal safety system for workers performing special tasks at heights. Depending on the material and the connected safety system, sekurants act as anchorage points that connect the fall protection to the building structure. In order to meet the high safety requirements, they are made of particularly stable materials and must be installed professionally. This is the only way to ensure that they can safely absorb the necessary forces and transfer them to the structure. Each lifeline is subjected to strict safety tests before it is approved for use in fall protection. It must not only be optimally matched to the respective building material, but also reliably transfer a minimum force of 6 kilonewtons to the supporting structure.

What are sekurants used for?
Sekurants serve as anchor points for PPE and protect against the risk of falling. They are used in particular by professional groups such as firefighters, roofers, industrial climbers and other workers at height. Fall protection is required by law in many work areas, depending on the working height and the area of application. Working on or above water: Fall protection is always required here, regardless of the height. Working on traffic routes: Fall protection is required from a working height of 1 metre. Other work: In all other areas, fall protection must be used from a working height of 2 metres.

Where are sekurants used?
Sekurants are used in numerous areas where work is carried out at height. They are particularly common on roofs, flat roofs and on machinery and structures. They serve as fixed anchor points for personal fall protection and ensure safety when working at heights. Whether on buildings, in open stairwells, on wall openings or on machines and systems, Sekurants offer versatile solutions for fall protection. Their safe and flexible application makes them indispensable components for protecting workers when working at heights.

What different types of sekurants are there?
Sekurants, also known as anchor points, are available in different designs to meet the requirements of different structures, designs and safety systems. Anchor points: These sekurants are equipped with an eyelet that serves as a connector between the personal safety system and safety harnesses. They are particularly suitable for point applications. Anchor points for rope or rail systems: Rope systems: Here, a wire rope is guided over several sekurants. The worker's personal safety system can be attached to it, giving them a greater range of movement and allowing them to act more flexibly. Rail systems: These use special sliders, which also provide an extended range of movement. Overhead systems: Both rope and rail systems can be mounted overhead, providing additional freedom of movement and safety in special work areas. The selection of the right anchor point depends on the substrate and material of the structure. Only if the anchor point is matched to the specific properties of the structure can the required forces be safely absorbed and transferred.

Which sekurants are best suited where?
Different safety systems are suitable depending on the type of work and the nature and structure of the work surface. In particular, a distinction must be made between permanent and temporary fall arrest systems. Permanent anchor devices are mainly installed on roofs and on machines that require regular maintenance or cleaning. This ensures permanent safety and significantly reduces the effort required for fall protection. Temporary sekurants can be reinstalled and remounted after use. Here too, there are various options, such as SECU WIRE TO GO. The latter are mainly used by the fire brigade or roofers. This ensures good fall protection even at heights where work is not normally carried out. Otherwise, the safety equipment must be adapted to the surface and the material on which it is installed. In addition, there are different securants for the various rope and rail systems, which are ideally suited to ensure greater freedom of movement during work.

What are the legal requirements for sekurants?
The use of sekurants is governed by various legal regulations to ensure workplace safety. Here are some examples: Occupational Health and Safety Act (ArbSchG): This is the core occupational safety law in Germany. It requires employers to take the necessary measures to ensure the safety and health of their employees. This includes the provision and use of appropriate protective equipment and measures such as sekurants. More on this can be found here. DGUV Rule 112-198: This rule outlines specific requirements for the use of sekurants on flat roofs. For example, it defines how sekurants must be installed and what load-bearing capacity they must have. More details on DGUV Rule 112-198 can be found here. These are just a few examples of how the use of sekurants is legally regulated. It is essential that employers and employees familiarize themselves with the applicable regulations and ensure proper use and maintenance of sekurants. Sekurants are mandatory whenever fall protection for individuals is required at a specified height. The sekurants themselves must comply with DIN standards to ensure the necessary load-bearing capacity and safety. Safety systems such as cable-based or rail-based systems, as well as permanent anchor points, are permanently installed on buildings and are therefore subject to general building authority approvals. They must be tested and certified accordingly. Temporary sekurants, on the other hand, fall under DIN EN 795 and must be tested and certified in accordance with the standard’s requirements. This ensures a high level of safety.

Who is authorized to test sekurants?
Sekurants may only be tested by qualified and certified professionals. This includes experts from occupational safety companies or specialized personnel in roof renovation and servicing. These professionals have the required qualifications, in-depth expertise, and knowledge of applicable regulations and standards. They are able to properly test the anchor points and ensure that they meet the applicable requirements. The test includes checking the following aspects, among others: Stability of the sekurant, proper attachment, resistance to loads If damage, wear or other defects are found, the affected sekurants must be replaced or repaired immediately to ensure the safety of users.

How often must a sekurant be inspected?
To ensure safety when working at heights at all times, sekurants are subject to specified inspection intervals in accordance with legal requirements. Inspection intervals: Sekurants must be inspected at least once a year. The same applies to all other personal fall protection systems. Inspection authorisation: Inspections may only be carried out by specially trained and certified competent persons, for example in accordance with the requirements of the German Social Accident Prevention Regulations (DGUV). The annual test is crucial to ensure the full functionality and safety of the sekurants. Employers are obliged to document the proper procedure of the tests. In the event of an accident, this documentation will be carefully examined to verify compliance with safety standards. This ensures that work at height is always reliably secured.
