Maximum safety at low heights

The SKYVEST is the world's first patented airbag system and is designed to reduce injuries in the event of a fall from a low height. It consists of a waistcoat with reflectors and an integrated airbag made of tear-resistant material that inflates in the event of a fall.

SKYVEST is inflated via a pressure bottle equipped with a pyrotechnic release. The inflation unit is connected to an electronic sensor unit that detects a fall situation based on parameters such as movement, acceleration and position of the person. In this way, not only the chest and back, including the spine, are protected, but also the back of the head and the coccyx.

The waistcoat is put on with three click fasteners and is reusable after the airbag has been deployed. In addition, the airbag waistcoat can be used flexibly, independently and universally over a period of 24 hours.

Universal use in various fields of application

The waistcoat is suitable, for example, for electricians or workers in building management, for truck drivers, dock workers, service technicians, garage builders, workers in machine maintenance and servicing or even private individuals who perform activities on a ladder. The patented system can also be combined with a PPE harness. A back eyelet extension is required for this.

The SKYVEST has been tested by the Bertrandt Research Centre for crash tests and certified by TÜV as personal protective equipment.

Low heights with a lot of risk

Around 50 per cent of all fatal fall accidents occur when falling from a height of less than five metres. This is exactly where the SKYVEST comes into its own and offers maximum safety for activities at lower heights.

"The SKYVEST is used where a fall arrest system according to EN 363 is not yet required, but where there is still a potential risk. It thus closes a large gap and offers a solution for an area in which many accidents occur."

Statement from product developer m. stöger on the new airbag system
Michael Stöger,
Product developer

The ideal sensor height for maximum protection of the SKYVEST is between 1.7m - 3.2m. Different body heights and working heights must be taken into account:

The SKYVEST offers optimum safety for activities at heights between 1.70 and 3.20 metres.

Besides fractures (approx. 60%), severe paralysis (approx. 20%) is the most common consequence of falls from heights below <3m. Since falls from low drop heights often end on the back, the SKYVEST was primarily designed as a back protector and thus protects vital body parts. Based on a fall height of 3 metres, biomechanical measurements in comparative tests with and without an airbag waistcoat showed that the acceleration to the 12th thoracic vertebra, for example, was approx. 5 times lower.
With a protective effect that even exceeds the TÜV requirement of 30% many times over, the SKYVEST sets new safety standards.

The SKYVEST offers the best protection for activities at heights between 1.70m - 3.20m with over > 60%.

Protective effect of the different drop heights

But even at heights above 3 metres, users benefit from the convincing protective effect of the innovative airbag waistcoat.

At a drop height of less than 3.2m, such as on ladders, the SKYVEST offers a protection effect of over 60%.
At a drop height of up to 5m, such as on trucks, the SKYVEST offers a protection effect of approx. 55%.
At a drop height of up to 5m, such as on trucks, the SKYVEST offers a protection effect of approx. 50%.
At a drop height of up to 5m, such as on trucks, the SKYVEST offers a protection effect of approx. 45%.
