Maintenance of fall protection systems
Permanently installed fall protection systems such as guardrails, rail and cable systems, as well as individual anchor points / roof anchors, must function safely throughout their entire service life. The requirements for maintenance, inspection and repair have been significantly specified in DGUV Information 201-056, published in 2025:
- Operators / owners are obliged to keep systems in a safe condition
- Work must be carried out by a competent person
- Maintenance, inspection and repair are mandatory elements of the duty to maintain safety

- Anchor devices – at least once a year
- Cable and rail systems – at least once a year
- Guardrails and side protection – at least every 24 months
