The "Raptor" fall arresters from SKYLOTEC are the only devices to date that have two fall indicators. These indicate whether they can still be used. This protects users from mistakenly using a device that is not intact and increases their safety. Most recently, the German manufacturer of fall protection devices has further developed its series - and added additional versions. In addition to variants with a textile strap and steel rope, there is now another version with a stainless steel rope and the "Raptor Hub," which is equipped with a rescue lifting unit. The GWO standard is intended to provide a better level of safety training as regards wind turbine applications. It is for this very reason, in fact, that GWO was formed by leading manufacturers/operating authorities of wind turbines.

Catastrophic incidents and accidents are frequently the catalyst for the drawing up of standardised safety measures or for corresponding training. The sinking of the Titanic is undoubtedly the most well-known example here. As a result of this tragic event, the maritime safety regulations were standardised, and this led to a substantial reduction of the risks in hazardous situations and an increase in the level of safety. Along BGR 198 the operating time of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is dependent on the conditions of use where the information in the user manuals has to be considered. Under intense usage the maximum operation time usually will not be reached. Harnesses and ropes made of chemical fibres underlie a certain aging even without use, for example because of ultra-violet rays or other influences from climate and environment.
